This page should help people who are new to Wiki learn to use and to navigate this site. Additionally, anyone who is registered and wishes to post a contribution should first read the Guidelines for Posting to the Wiki.

[edit] Introduction

A Wiki is similar to a website in that it is a repository of information available over the internet. Like a traditional website, there are articles, links, pictures, etc. What makes a Wiki special is how wonderfully malleable it is. Adding and/or editing content online has never been easier, and the required coding knowledge is minimal. Most functions are as simple as clicking a link and typing. Sure, Wikis are on the plain side, but they more than make up for a drab appearance with raw versatility.

[edit] How a Wiki Works

Structurally, a Wiki isn't all that different from a normal web page. If you'd like a robust description of a Wiki, head over to Wikipedia and check out their article on Wiki. The general idea is that a Wiki is a collaborate project, hence its simplicity of use. The express purpose of a Wiki is to encourage community involvement in the development and maintenance of the site.

[edit] How to Use this Site

Unless you are planning on posting or editing on the site, most of the navigation should be fairly straightforward. Don't forget that the Search command and Categories are available as alternate navigation methods to the main site structure. If you plan on making contributions, or if you just feel totally lost, head over to the MediaWiki User's Guide for tons of helpful info. I will hit some of the highlights in my guidelines page, but the MediaWiki site is very readable and I strongly recommend giving the User's Guide there some time if you want to understand the mechanics behind the Wiki site.

If you use Firefox and would like to be able to search the Partner Wiki directly, Bill Forester wrote a very cool plug-in which you can download here: http://developer.partnersoft.com/configuration/search_tool/plugins.html
