There are three major audiences for this manual:

  • customer IT staff,
  • Partner technical staff, and
  • third-party technical consultants.

Other folks, such as developers or end-users, may find the information useful as well, but they are not the primary audience.

Customer IT Staff

This manual is primarily focused on our customer IT staff.

Partner Software’s customers are almost exclusively utility organizations, with complex and demanding enterprise infrastructure needs. Our software must work within existing network constraints and policies, and it must coexist and interoperate with software and hardware from other vendors.

We understand and greatly respect the burdens placed upon IT staff in this environment, and do our best to ensure that we do not increase that burden unnecessarily. Indeed, we hope to make our software simple, straightforward, and robust, so that it is rarely a concern for IT at all.

Partner Technical Staff

Our developers, support, and production staff all work at various levels with the Partner System, and system administration is but one of the many tasks they perform. For them, this manual is one of many, but focused on a specific subset of tasks that are critical and require the most clarity.

We always feel that we should use and depend on the same documentation as those outside the company. This helps ensure that our documentation is both useful and up-to-date.

Third-Party Technical Consultants

Third-party service and product vendors who work with our software are also an important audience. They may be performing any of a number of roles with the Partner System at a customer site - configuration, customization, administration, or even just acting as another user.

We also recognize that our customers may choose to out-source their IT and other technical tasks to service organizations. Such situations are quite normal for our market, and are addressed and allowed for in our licensing. In those cases the third-party is acting as the customer’s IT staff and needs access to the same information.
